
The Meriden Arts Trust, Inc., (MAT), and the Zion Lutheran Church of Wallingford announce that the Central Connecticut Civic Youth Orchestra, (CCCYO), is expanding to hold its 2012-2013, Tenth Anniversary season at the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Road, in Wallingford, CT. MAT is very grateful to the congregants of Zion Lutheran Church for the use of their beautiful music facilities.
Auditioning students should bring his/her classical orchestral instrument, a 1-3 minute piece of music which the student is comfortable playing. In addition, students will be asked to play two major scales and sight read a small portion of the music that will be used in the appropriate CCCYO ensemble. Students will be placed into the appropriate ensemble by CCCYO’s Music Director. The CCCYO will play at least four concerts this year. Rehearsals are on Thursday afternoons/early evenings, FE- 4:30-5:15, PE- 5:30-7:00 and ACE-7:00-7:30 pm. Please note that neither saxophones nor euphoniums will be used in the orchestra's music repertoire this year.
The members of the Central Connecticut Civic Youth Orchestra invite you to join them at one of their two Open House events, 5-7 pm. All Classical musicians are welcome from all around the Central Connecticut region including Berlin, Cheshire, Durham, East Hampton, Middlefield, Middletown, Meriden, North Branford, North Haven, Portland, Southington and Wallingford. Other town residents are also encouraged to audition. The first Open House will be on Thursday, September 6th, 5-7 pm, at the Center Congregational Church, 474 Broad Street at the corner of East Main Street in Meriden. The second one will be on Thursday, September 13th, 5-7 pm, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Road in Wallingford. Refreshments will be served. The Principal Ensemble (PE) plays at the level of the CMEA Regional Music Festival music. The Advanced Chamber Ensemble (ACE) is for Principal Ensemble members who want to study more challenging music and learn the art of the Chamber Ensemble, and plays at the level of the CMEA Regional Festivals. CCCYO students earn 80 Community Service Hours during the September to May season and an additional 32 in CCCYO’s July 1-21, 2013 Orchestra Summer program.
