Free Community Easter Dinner To Take Place In Wallingford
Wallingford Community Dinners is hard at work putting together its annual free Easter dinner for those in need and the homebound.
WALLINGFORD, CT — Fresh off putting together its new pasta dinner, Wallingford Community Dinners, Inc. is making final preparations for its annual Easter dinner next week.
The dinner will take place from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, at First Congregational Church of Wallingford at 23 South Main St. in Wallingford. The event is free for anyone in need of company or a hot meal, according to organizers.
Wallingford Community Dinners, Inc. has been serving the community for more than 40 years by providing dinners to those in need on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

The nonprofit group launched its first free pasta dinner event in February to “create another opportunity for people to gather, share a meal, and interact with the community outside of the traditional holiday season,” according to Wallingford Community Dinners, Inc. President Kathy Wallace.
Wallace said the pasta dinner “went great.”

“We were really pleased with how the pasta dinner turned out,” she said. “We served 202 meals, which is a wonderful response from the community and very encouraging for us.”
Wallace said things are “going well overall” with organizing the Easter dinner.
“We’re in good shape,” she said. “We could still use a few more volunteers and people to make deliveries. We also want to make sure we are serving meals to those homebound guests who need a hot meal on Easter.”
There are around 100 to 120 volunteers involved with making the dinner happen, according to Wallace.
“It truly takes a village,” she said.
Wallace said there are still a few specific areas where they could use some extra help. A signup sheet is available here.
Meals will be served in person. Dinners will also be available for pickup or delivery for homebound residents who preregister.
Wallace said they are asking for orders to be placed by April 2, “so we can plan accordingly and make sure everyone is served.”

“We’re really looking forward to serving this meal, as we always are,” Wallace said. “It’s something we care deeply about. We’re especially grateful this year because Wallingford Cares generously donated the funds for the dinner. This makes a tremendous difference and helps us continue serving our community.
“We are eager to bring the community together again. This event is really about making sure everyone has a warm meal and feels remembered on Easter, especially those who may not otherwise be able to celebrate.”
