Fugitive Grandma Caught Passing Phony Prescriptions while Men Flee with 1-Year-Old in Car: Wallingford Police

The woman's granddaughter was missing for several hours until she was returned to her mother in New York, unharmed, according to police.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A New York woman, who was wanted as a fugitive from justice out of Texas and had active arrest warrants in Greenwich and Wilton, was caught trying to pass forged prescriptions in Wallingford while her 1-year-old granddaughter was outside in a car with two men who brought the woman to Connecticut, according to police.

The men fled the scene with the baby in the car and she was unable to be located by police until she was returned to her mother in New York several hours later and was unharmed, according to Lt. Michael Colavolpe.

It all began at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 1), when Wallingford Police were notified by the CVS Pharmacy on North Colony Road that a woman was trying to pass a forged prescription and has since left the store.

“Arthur explained that she came to Connecticut from New York with two individuals that she doesn’t know very well,” Colavolpe said in a press release. “She explained that she receives money in return for obtaining the prescriptions. Further, Arthur explained that her 1-year-old granddaughter was in the vehicle that she came in and the vehicle was waiting outside. Detectives searched the area and could not locate the vehicle. Arthur only knew the nicknames of the individuals she was with and did not know the model or license plate of the vehicle.”

Detectives immediately began trying to track down Arthur’s granddaughter and also requested assistance from the NYPD.

Police made contact with Arthur’s daughter, the baby’s mother, who did not know the individuals that had her baby, according to Colavolpe.

At approximately 8 p.m., four hours after Arthur was taken into custody, the baby was returned to her mother in New York unharmed, Colavolpe.

The investigation into the other two individuals in the vehicle is ongoing.

Police learned that Arthur has been passing fraudulent prescriptions throughout Connecticut and New York since at least September, 2016.

“Additionally, after dropping off the prescription at CVS, Arthur went across the street and dropped off a prescription at the Wallingford Walmart,” Colavolpe said. “Arthur was attempting to obtain Promethazine with Codeine, which is a scheduled V narcotic.”

Arthur was charged with two counts of criminal attempt to possess narcotics, two counts of second-degree forgery, risk of injury to a minor, and interfering with an officer. She was held on a $25,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned at Meriden Superior Court on Friday morning.

Additionally, Arthur was charged as a fugitive from justice for an extraditable warrant out of Texas for forgery-related charges. She was held on a $100,000 bond for this charge.

Colavolpe said Arthur also has outstanding arrest warrants out of Greenwich and Wilton for forgery-related charges.
