Gaylord Specialty Healthcare Names Cheryl Tansley, SLP, as Employee of the Year

Gaylord Specialty Healthcare of Wallingford, CT named Cheryl Tansley, MS, CCC/SLP as the Joseph A. Lindenmayer 2017 Employee of the Year. The award was established in 1992 by the family of Joseph A. Lindenmayer, who had been a patient of Gaylord’s. According to his daughter, Josephine L. Gierer, the award acknowledges the kindness that was returned to her father by the employees at Gaylord. This year’s award celebrates the 26th recipient of the award since its inception.

Tansley from Wallingford, CT is a speech-language pathologist for the inpatient therapy department and has been an employee since 2008. She was nominated for the award by a patient and patient’s family stating, “I feel her excellent care and attitude was a turning point on my recovery. Cheryl was a super ‘cheerleader’ always encouraging me to succeed and improve my health condition. She showed me real compassion and treated me with respect. I always felt that she truly cared about me as a person first, not just my symptoms.”

Her supervisor, Peter Grevelding, PT, Director of Therapy Services and Business Development states, “Cheryl is the epitome of the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence). She is constantly positive and willing to help, willing to do more. Her patients and peers love her. She is a patient-first therapist and an advocate for high quality treatment.”

There is a rigorous selection process to receive this distinction starting with a nomination from either a patient or their family member or a fellow employee. The employee’s performance record must be outstanding and supported by their supervisor. Finally a committee of employees reviews all the nominations for final selection.
