K-9 Sniffs Out Drug Bust; Marijuana and $3K in Cash Seized: Wallingford Police

Police conducted a traffic stop after observing the two occupants in the vehicle weren't wearing their seat belts.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Meriden man faces drug charges after a traffic stop led to the seizure of nearly 2 ounces of marijuana and more than $3,000 in cash Tuesday morning in Wallingford, according to police.

At about 11 a.m. on Feb. 14, Wallingford Police conducted a motor vehicle stop after an officer observed the two occupants were not wearing seatbelts.

During the ensuing investigation, with the assistance of the department’s K-9 Tate and handler Officer Lou Brangi, police seized two baggies containing nearly 2 ounces of marijuana and just over $3,000 in cash believed to be derived from marijuana sales, according to Lt. Anthony DeMaio.

DeMaio said the operator was identified as Jonathan Echervarria, who was cited for the seatbelt violation.

The passenger was identified as Kevin D. Agront, 20, of Meriden.

Agront was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) with intent to sell, possession of marijuana (over ½ ounce/under 4 ounces) and failure to wear a safety belt.

Agront was released after posting a $2,500 surety bond and is due in Meriden Superior Court on Feb. 24.
