Lecture: American Politics in the 21st Century

Lecture and discussion “American Politics in the 21st Century: to be or not to be a democracy” September 13, 6:30 p.m. Wallingford Public Library, 200 N. Main St., free.

The public is invited to this important and relevant discussion about how the resurrection of political socialization can benefit our democratic system.

Political socialization evolves through education about politics, the political system, and political culture. There are a number of major agents of political socialization, including: families, media, schools, religious organizations, peer groups, political parties, interest groups, and contact with government officials. This presentation will focus on how individuals can become engaged in the American political process and why has there been a lack of engagement in the recent past.

Bernie Fitzpatrick teaches at Albertus Magnus College, Naugatuck Valley Community College, and Western Connecticut State University, where he has been teaching political science and government since 2000.
