Longtime Sheehan Baseball Coach To Retire

The coach is entering his final season at Sheehan in Wallingford.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Longtime Sheehan baseball coach Matt Altieri will retire at the end of this season, according to multiple reports. He is also retiring as a social studies teacher after the school year.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports Altieri is entering his 25th year as head coach at Sheehan where he has led the Titans to four state titles in five state championship appearances. He has won more than 350 games in his coaching career, including his time at Guilford where he was also a teacher.

Altieri, who decided in late October that this would be his last season, told Joe Morelli of GameTimeCT / New Haven Register that he knows it’s the right time to move on from teaching and baseball and that he’d rather leave “a year early than a year too late.”
