Longtime Sheehan Basketball Coach Retires

Joe Gaetano has retired after leading the Sheehan boys basketball team for 27 years.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Sheehan boys basketball coach Joe Gaetano retired this week after guiding the Titans for 27 years, according to multiple reports.

The Record-Journal reported Gaetano told the team after school on Wednesday that he was retiring to spend more time with his family.

Gaetano was the longest tenured coach in the Southern Connecticut Conference and won 298 games, according to GameTimeCT.

Sheehan won the 2010 Class M state championship as the tournament’s eighth seed with a 72-61 upset victory over No. 3 Bloomfield in the finals.

The school is beginning the process of hiring a new coach and hopes to have someone in place by Dec. 1, according to the Record-Journal.
