Lyman Hall Students Named SCC Scholar Athletes of the Month

Brittany Driscoll and Jonathon Jacobs received the honor for October.

Lyman Hall’s Brittany Driscoll and Jonathon Jacobs were among the 15 student-athletes from eight high schools to be named The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for October.

Now in its ninth year, The SportsCenter of Connecticut/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month program will honor outstanding young men and women each month during the 2014-15 academic year.

“Many thanks to the Sports Center of Connecticut for its support of the SCC and the Scholar Athlete of the Month program,” SCC Commissioner Al Carbone said. “This conference has been proud of its success for the last 20-plus years, and to be able to recognize outstanding young men and women who demonstrate the desire and ability to succeed solidifies what the SCC is all about.”

Each SCC member school gets two honorees per season (fall, winter and spring). The Conference will announce the fall recipients in September, October and November.

Student athletes who are selected must be a varsity letter-winner and have a 3.0/B average while demonstrating leadership qualities such as: being a positive role model; helping teammates overcome adversity; showing a commitment to self-improvement; or putting the needs of the team before themselves.

Recently selected the SCC’s Division II Swimmer of the Year, Driscoll has been an exemplary performer in the classroom with her 4.27 grade-point average. In the pool, she earned All-SCC and Class L All-State honors in multiple events and holds nine school records.

“Brittany has earned everything she has achieved in the classroom and in the pool, but most of all, she is a hard worker and good person,” Lyman Hall athletic director Steve Baker said.

Recently selected the SCC’s Boys Soccer Co-Player of the Year, Jacobs has also been a standout in the classroom. Ranked 22nd in his class, he sports a 3.93 grade-point average.

A three-sport athlete (soccer, tennis and crew), Jacobs served as captain of the Trojans’ soccer team this past fall.

“Jon is a fine example of a scholar athlete,” Lyman Hall boys’ soccer coach Arnie Jandreau said. “He is a great individual who treats others with respect.”
