Man Bites Officer During Arrest At Walmart: Wallingford Police

The man is accused of carrying a modified flare gun, and biting an officer while being arrested at Walmart, according to police.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Meriden man faces several charges after police said he was carrying a dangerous weapon at Walmart in Wallingford, and bit an officer while being arrested.

Police responded to Walmart at 844 North Colony Rd. around 6 p.m. on May 28 on the report of an unwanted person, according to officials.

Officers found Tyler Dowd, 32, of Meriden, “concealing price tags on items he was selecting off the store shelves,” according to police.

“Officers located a flare gun on his person that was modified to discharge shards of glass/shrapnel rather than a traditional flare,” police wrote in a news release. “They also located a fixed blade and a folding pocketknife. While officers tried to put Dowd into the police cruiser, he resisted arrest and bit one of the officers on the arm.”

Dowd was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, two counts of interfering / resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, and three counts of violation of a protective order. He was released after posting a $55,000 bond with a court date of June 7.
