Man Charged In Connection With Fatal Wallingford Overdose: U.S. Attorney Office

A dose of fentanyl led to an overdose victim's death, according to the U.S. Atorney's office.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A New Haven man was charged in connection with a fatal Wallingford overdose. Alex Borrero, aka "Red," 50, was arrested Monday on charges of distributing heroin and fentanyl.

Wallingford Police responded to an untimely death of a 25-year-old man at a residence in Wallingford on Feb. 28, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

Drug evidence and the victim's cell phone were seized. A combination of fentanyl and Xanax led to the victim's death, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Borrero is believed to be the source of fentanyl for the overdose, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. The ongoing investigation also includes an overdose death of a 31-year-old man in Branford on May 18.

Borrero had about 30 grams of heroin and $1,900 in cash on him at the time of his arrest, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
