“While trying to get away from Hoffman, the victim suffered additional stab wounds to their abdomen, legs, and buttocks,” Colavolpe said in a press release. “In self-defense, the victim stabbed Hoffman in his leg. After being stabbed, Hoffman retreated and left the residence. It is unknown what provoked Hoffman to attack the victim and Hoffman was not cooperative with the investigation. Both subjects received non-life threatening injuries and were treated at Yale New Haven Hospital.”
After being arrested as a fugitive from justice, Hoffman was arraigned the next morning at Palmer District Court located in Palmer, Massachusetts.
Colavolpe said Hoffman waived extradition and the Wallingford Police Department took custody of him on Monday, Aug. 29, and transported him back to Connecticut.
The victim will not face any charges, according to Colavolpe.
Hoffman was charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault and second-degree assault. He was held on a $50,000 bond and will be arraigned at Meriden Superior Court on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
