Joseph Riopel, 71, the driver of the Nissan Maxima, and his passenger both sustained minor facial lacerations in the accident but were not hospitalized, according to DeMaio.

DeMaio said the investigation, which is ongoing, revealed that Riopel was negotiating a left-hand turn from Wallace Street onto South Elm Street, intending to travel in a northward direction. When doing so the Maxima travelled into the path of the scooter, which was traveling in a southerly direction on South Elm Street.
