Music Icon Prince Electrified Connecticut Venue in 1997

The late superstar played a 27-song set at the Toyota Oakdale Theatre that September, and nearly played a show in Meriden the same night.

WALLINGFORD, CT - Music icon Prince, who died at age 57 Thursday in his Minnesota home, was obviously no stranger to the concert stage, electrifying audiences around the world with his showmanship and brilliant musical chops.

He also performed multiple shows in Connecticut during is illustrious 40-year career, including a couple highlighted below.

The 1997 show at the Oakdale in Wallingford is particularly noteworthy, because Prince nearly played a second show that same night in nearby Meriden, reports the Record-Journal.

Seems he was almost booked to play the now defunct nightclub, The Vault, for an after-party gig, but an undisclosed dispute with the former owner, Robert Mesite, squashed that plan.

Prince also played a triumphant three-concert mini residency at Mohegan Sun in December 2013:
