Obituary: Albert J. Simler Jr., 93, Of Wallingford
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Al worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven for many years.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Albert J. Simler Jr., 93, of Wallingford, died peacefully at home on Friday, December 22, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Barrett) Simler.
Al was born in New Haven, March 3, 1930, a son of the late Albert J. Simler Sr. and Agnes (Mahon) Simler. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Al worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven for many years.
After his retirement, he spent many years volunteering with the American Red Cross. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing hockey, and was an enthusiastic fan of the UCONN Huskies women’s basketball team.

In addition to his wife Dorothy, Al is survived by his children, Kathleen Hayes (James) of East Haddam, David Simler (Linda Masci) of Branford, Karen Simler D’Agostino of Wallingford, Carol Simler (Lawrence “Love” Marchitto) of West Haven, Jennifer Wellman (F. Alexander) of Amherst, MA, and LCDR (Ret.) Lisa Cauley, USN (MCPO (Ret.) Roger, USN) of Yona, Guam; and his grandchildren, Lori Girouard-Thompson, Michelle Wellman and Victor Wellman. He was predeceased by his son, Brian Simler; his daughter-in-law, Dr. Peggie Salsbury-Simler; his son-in-law, Vincent D’Agostino; and his grandson, Leon Girouard, Jr.
Al’s family would like to thank their father’s nurse, Emily; his caretakers, Orlando and Lynita; and his wonderful neighbors, Lisa and David Miller. And a very special thanks to Al’s son-in-law, Larry, for being a constant companion and caretaker.
