Obituary: Amalia ‘Molly’ Juliana Rumi, 99, Of Wallingford

Amalia worked as a nurse's aide. She loved spending time with family and all the friends she met wherever she went.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Amalia “Molly” Juliana Rumi, 99, of Wallingford, loving wife of the late Eugene Rumi, passed away May 12, 2023 at MidState Medical Center.

Amalia was born in Hungary on November 17, 1923, a daughter of the late Sandór and Sofia (Kiraly) Mezei.

Amalia worked as a nurse’s aide. She loved spending time with family and all the friends she met wherever she went. She was always laughing and joking with everyone.

She was a devoted E&R United Church of Christ member. She loved playing Bingo and socializing at the senior center, “scenery” trips to the casino, and “painting.”

She had a love for food, always baking and cooking, especially Hungarian food. She lit up in the presence of all animals, always wanting to take care of them, especially her beloved Lucy. She loved the outdoors, sunning on her porch, and walking the neighborhood greeting everyone she saw.

Amalia is survived by her son, John Rumi and his partner, Nancy Clarke; Robert Cranston, who was like a son to her; her daughter, Nancy Rumi; her grandchildren; Kelly Moffat, Lauren Rumi, Anna Rumi, David Cranston, and Joyce Bekyore; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister’s Emma Geleta, Susanna Farkas, Elizabeth Bicske, and brother Sandór Mezei.

Amalia’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.
