Obituary: David R. MacDonald, 75, Of Wallingford

Dave, a proud U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, found a passion for painting in retirement & converted his basement into an art studio.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): David R. MacDonald, 75, of Wallingford, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023. He was the loving husband of Sandra (Deering) MacDonald of 48 years.

David was born in Milford, CT, on October 13, 1947, a son of the late Harry A. MacDonald and Helen (Donnelly) MacDonald. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War.

David retired in 2014 after a long career at Unicorr (CT Container). David and Sandy loved to spend time on their boat “She Drives Me Crazy” and at the marina in Branford where they made many lifelong friendships.

In retirement, Dave found a passion for painting and converted his basement into an art studio, like many of his hobbies, he was always involving his friends and family in his art and wanted to share it with everyone.

In addition to Sandy, David is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Kate and Tov Haueisen of North Palm Beach, FL, and Anne and Robert Dempster of Meriden, CT; His beloved granddaughters, Rachel, Samantha and Paige; His brother, Douglas P. MacDonald of East Haven, CT; and many dear friends.

David’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, on Friday, Oct. 13th, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment at St. John Cemetery in Wallingford will be private. Party shirts and party attire are encouraged.
