Obituary: Doris H. Riotte of Wallingford

Doris Riotte was a 1937 graduate of Lyman Hall high school and contributed to the war effort by making munitions at the Cyanamid factory.

Doris H. Riotte of Wallingford, CT, has been called to heaven by the Lord at age 97 on April 9, 2018, surrounded by her devoted family. A lifelong resident of Wallingford, Doris was the daughter of the late Charles and Laurence Lufbery, who were born in France and immigrated to the U.S. just prior to WWI. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Joseph H. Riotte, her brother Marcel and sister-in-law Marie (Germain) Lufbery, her brother Raoul Lufbery, and a famous paternal uncle, G. Raoul Lufbery who, as one of America’s first fighter pilot aces, died in aerial combat over France in 1918.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Margaret (Vitelli) Lufbery of International Falls, MN and by her five children, Frederick Riotte of Suffield, CT, Karl and Barbara (Crimmins) Riotte of Springfield, VT, Erich Riotte of Wallingford, CT, Laura (Riotte) and Joe Ewers of Ashuelot, NH, and Lisa (Riotte) and Paul Powers of Wallingford, CT. Doris was the loving grandmother of Adrienne (Riotte) Carnahan of Lancaster, PA, Austin Riotte of New Orleans, LA, Morgan (Riotte) Scully of Calgary, Alberta, and great-grandmother of Amelie Carnahan and Greta Scully.

Doris Riotte was a 1937 graduate of Lyman Hall high school and contributed to the war effort by making munitions at the Cyanamid factory in Wallingford during WWII. She attended The Most Holy Trinity Church and The Church of the Resurrection her entire life and retired from Choate/Rosemary Hall School in 1990 where she formed many lifelong friendships. She enjoyed gardening, travel, baking, and braiding wool rugs. She loved all animals, especially her pet companions. Most of all, she cherished her family, gave unselfishly, inspired a strong work ethic, and was a best friend to each of her children.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home on Friday, May 11th from 4 – 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 12th at 10 a.m. at The Most Holy Trinity Church. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Meriden Humane Society; 311 Murdock Ave, Meriden, CT 06450 or any animal charity of your choice.
