Obituary: Douglas McKay, 68, Of Wallingford
He co-owned, with his wife, the family business Technical Associates Group, Inc., and was a longtime hockey coach with the Wallingford Hawks

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Douglas McKay, 68, was reunited with his father, mother and brother in heaven on September 29, 2023. Doug was born to the late Robert J. and Mary (Sheehan) McKay in Hempstead, New York. He was the husband to Roxane (Harabedian) for 36 years. Doug and Roxane moved to Wallingford in 1985 and little did they know then that Wallingford would always be home to them.
Doug was a self-made man. He co-owned, with his wife, the family business Technical Associates Group, Inc. Doug was in the HVAC Air Balancing business since 1978 and was incredibly well respected for his depth of knowledge in the HVAC industry. It was commonplace for his customers to call Doug to solve any difficult design engineering conundrum that existed in the field. The office would receive the call for Doug to do his “magic” and solve those field problems for his customers.
Though Doug was highly respected in the professional world, the real mark he made in the world was with his family. A true family man, Doug took immense pride in his two sons, Adam and Alex. He was always available to assist and support his sons in whatever endeavors they pursued. Doug instilled the importance of being a gentleman, displaying good manners and respect to all you meet as a minimum standard.

Doug had a neighborhood reputation as a “pied piper” who would invent simple games like kick and catch that could just involve a ball but would captivate kids for hours!
Doug was an avid golfer who always enjoyed his time on the course. A true New Yorker, he loved all New York sports teams, but his heart was cemented in hockey and the Hartford Whalers.

Doug coached many levels of youth hockey through the Wallingford Hawks, even before his own children were born. He encouraged all his players to be their best. He shined as a role model for fair play and good sportsmanship.
In addition to golf and hockey, Doug enjoyed the simple things in life like taking the convertible for a Saturday spin with Roxane and Lacey. Doug was loved by all who knew him. He will be missed terribly.
Doug is survived by his wife, Roxane (Harabedian) McKay, his two sons, Adam and Alexander, his sister Donna O’Connor; and is predeceased by his brother-in-law John Bird, brothers in law, Richard (and Elizabeth) Harabedian, Edmond Harabedian and many beloved “New York cousins”, nieces, and nephews.
Doug’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N, Main Street Ext. on Friday, Oct. 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. directly at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony Street, Wallingford. Interment will be private at Center Street Cemetery in Wallingford.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Wallingford Hawks Youth Hockey Association P.O. Box 644 Wallingford, CT. 06492 or Wallingford Animal Shelter 5 Pent Road Wallingford, CT 06492.
