Obituary: Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Schmitt, 70, Of Wallingford
An extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend & respected Registered Nurse – a legend on her floor at MidState Hospital.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): We say goodbye to our beloved “Betty,” Elizabeth M. (Tudor) Schmitt, 70, of Wallingford. Betty passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 21, 2022. An extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and highly respected Registered Nurse – she was a joy in all our lives.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late Charles and Laurietta Tudor, she began her journey as a beautiful, strong, funny redhead with a unique laugh.
She had a long career as an RN – a legend on her floor – at MidState Hospital.

She was happily married for 50 years to her best friend and childhood sweetheart Donald Schmitt – and together they lived a life of passion, love, laughter, charity and adventure.
She is survived by her husband Donald; daughter Laura Campbell and grandsons Jack and Adam Campbell; daughter Barbara Schmitt with longtime boyfriend Jesse Sanzo; brother James Tudor and nephew and niece Sean and Nicole Tudor. She was predeceased by her sister, Carolyn Sipe.

With her kindness, generosity of spirit, and passion to create a beautiful world, Betty grew her family to include longtime friends, neighbors, teammates and colleagues that will forever be her legacy.
She had unconditional Love for Her Grandsons, Jack and Adam.
She loved going to Cove Haven in the Poconos every anniversary.
She loved family vacations in the Outer Banks.
She loved Music – a huge Barry Manilow fan attending dozens of concerts, and actually met him in Las Vegas.
She loved to clean and hated clutter and was obsessively organized.
She Loved Playing Slot machines and often won.
She was the heart and soul of our Softball team making it part of our family and hosting our annual summer party.
Her Hobby was making family and friends happy. Always with cards and gifts, her reward your smile.
She loved Photography – thousands of pictures – organized and categorized.
She loved to travel and especially looked forward to visiting her best friend Eleanor, and Charlie too.
As a nurse she was all about patient care and professionalism, often receiving letters and commendations from families.
She made the hospital her second home with her bright smile and would adorn it with her touch of seasonal decorations.
She was the glue and ring leader of the Nurse’s social group that she kept together even after retirement, going on trips to the casino and monthly luncheons.
She especially liked the Nurse’s overnight Vermont trips and would plan games to play and fun activities.
She was a beautiful caring playful person that the world will miss.
Betty’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, on Friday, October 28th, from 4-7pm. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 6:30 p.m.
