Obituary: Gail Marie Morse, 80, Of Wallingford
She worked in the library at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford for over 33 years, forming lasting connections with colleagues & students.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): On Saturday, February 3, 2024, Gail Marie Morse was called home, surrounded by her loving family at Hartford Hospital. Born on April 13, 1943, in New Haven to Myron and Amalia Worzek, she was a sister to Myra and Kenneth, both of whom pre-deceased her.
Gail attended North Haven High School and worked in her parents' restaurant, where she met the love of her life, Ronald Morse. They married on November 4, 1961.
After the birth of their son Stephen, the Morse family briefly relocated to upstate New York, returning to Connecticut in 1965, settling in the Yalesville section of Wallingford. Following the arrivals of their daughter Suzanne and son Eric, Ron became a plumbing apprentice in New Haven, eventually establishing Ron Morse Plumbing in the late '70s with Gail's unwavering support.

While managing the books for the business, Gail also dedicated her time to volunteering at local school libraries, fostering her passion for reading and supporting students. Her commitment continued as she worked in the library at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford for over 33 years, forming lasting connections with colleagues and students.
Post-retirement in 2017, Gail found fulfillment in volunteering at the Wallingford Senior Center, rekindling past friendships and building new ones. She remained in the family home with her cat Juniper, enjoying moments on her front porch, feeding squirrels, and observing the changes in the neighborhood over the years.

As families grew and moved on, younger couples would take their place, beginning the cycle of raising families, just as she and Ron did so many years ago. She loved Halloween and would don a costume each year to greet the kids at the door. We would also like to take this time to thank Corey, who, with his loving family became mom’s neighbor only a few short years ago. Everything he did for Gail went above and beyond any expectations and for that, the family is extremely grateful for you and your kind soul.
Beyond her literary interests, Gail showcased artistic talents in sketching and watercolors, often sharing these skills with her beloved grandchildren. A gardening enthusiast, she cultivated houseplants and maintained a backyard garden. Gail's later years were marked by her meticulous creation of what fondly became known as "the list," ensuring there were always household chores during family visits.
Gail cherished her outings to Dairy Queen with her granddaughter Rhylie, savoring chicken strip baskets and caramel sundaes. Their walks in the neighborhood, trips to the garden, and shared moments making ice cream cones in the kitchen formed an unbreakable bond filled with sarcasm and deep belly laughs.
Enduring personal tragedies, including the loss of her daughter Suzy at 6 and her husband Ron at 54 after 35 years of marriage, Gail demonstrated strength, resilience, and unwavering love. She fearlessly cared for Ron during his lengthy illness, becoming his primary caregiver.
Survived by her sons Stephen and Eric, along with their respective spouses Debbie and Caryn, Gail leaves a legacy as the loving grandmother to Kevin and his fiancé Brianna, Rhylie, Jonathan, Parker, and Jennifer, who, along with her husband Jesse Hunter, recently blessed her with her one and only great-grandson, Kaleb. Gail also leaves behind two nieces, Lisa Gunther and Holly Dwyer.
Despite the challenges, Gail's ability to connect extended beyond her immediate family. Her meticulous research skills, honed during her years in the library, and later on social media, allowed her to stay in touch with many distant relatives, including some she had never met.
Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her time here was complete. Gail Marie Morse will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Gail’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024 in the funeral home. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
