Obituary: Harold ‘Hal’ C. Becker Sr.; Longtime Wallingford Teacher, Coach

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): It is with heavy heart that we inform you that Harold Charles Becker Sr. passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at age 85.

Harold was born March 2, 1938, in Tannersville, NY, His family moved to Derby, CT. He graduated from Derby High School in 1956, where he played baseball. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served for four years. Harold and Beverly married on May 2nd 1964. They bought their first home in Shelton, CT and later moved to Cheshire and spent 30 years raising a family until they moved to Wallingford, CT.

Harold graduated from Western CT State University with a degree in science and biology, and further attended Southern CT State University and received his sixth-year degree. He was a guidance counselor and teacher at both Lyman Hall and Sheehan High School. He touched the lives of many students and helped prepare them for their future.

Hal was also an assistant football coach at both Lyman Hall and Sheehan, and head coach for the Girl’s Basketball Team at Sheehan.

Harold is survived by his devoted and loving wife Beverly (Richter) Becker of Wallingford. He also leaves behind two children that he loved and adored so much, and they adored him greatly, Heidi (John) Strillacci of Southington and Harold “Hal” Jr. (Kris) Becker of Hamden. He also leaves behind six grandchildren who loved him dearly and referred to him as “Poppy”: Grace, Derek and Rachel Strillacci, and Kolby, Bode, and Jozie Becker. He also leaves behind his loving sister, Christine (John) Hallet and their children Wayne, Marc and Heather. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Mary Beck and his brother Edmund Becker.

Funeral services were private and under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home.
