Obituary: James E. Grego, 67, of Wallingford

James E. Grego, 67, of Wallingford, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 with family and friends by his side. He was the beloved husband of Sally (Zielenski) Grego and the most loving and cherished father of his two children, Michael J. Grego and Melissa A. Grego.

Jim was born in New Haven, Oct. 30, 1951, a son of the late Frank J. and Rosemary (Hayden) Grego. He was employed by Dichello Distributors for 35 years. He loved all chocolates and was often seen eating one (or two) hot fudge sundaes. Jim found no greater joy than to spend time with family. He was an extremely proud father who loved attending Michael and Melissa’s games and events. An early riser, Jim regularly enjoyed his 5 a.m. drive to Cumberland Farms for coffee with his faithful dog Lola on his lap. Jimmy loved and talked to everyone he met. He was often described as “strong like a bull.” Family, friends and food were all important.

In addition to his wife Sally, and his children, Michael and Melissa; he is survived by his siblings, Rosemary (Ronald) DeMatties, JeanAnn (Robert) Jefferies and Kathleen (John) Tasillo; his parents-in-law, Ted and Rose Zielenski; many nieces and nephews; and close friends Charise, Arnie, Colin and Cindy. He was predeceased by his brother, John Grego.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Friday, Nov. 23, from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be private in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
