Obituary: Janet Meyers Mielcarz, 74, Of Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Janet Meyers Mielcarz, 74, of Wallingford, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at MidState Medical Center after a 25-year battle against Polymyositis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was the beloved wife of Richard W. Mielcarz of 50 years.

Janet was born in Meriden, January 22, 1949, the daughter of the late Anthony Meyers and Estelle (Szajdek) Meyers. She attended Maloney High School in Meriden, class of 1967, where she graduated with high honors. In 1971 she graduated from St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford with a double major in French and Education. Janet later continued her studies at Fairfield University, achieving her Masters in 1976.

Janet taught French at Branford High School for 28 years from 1971 until 1999 before taking early retirement. She was adored and well-respected by her students and colleagues.

In 2000 she continued her career in education for the Wallingford Board of Education as a paraprofessional until her retirement in 2014.

Janet loved to travel and made many trips to Europe with both her family and students. Above all her favorite family vacation spot was Lake George, NY. Janet was an avid reader and could often be found enjoying Agatha Christie novels or an interesting biography.

Janet was also a lover of arts and culture regularly frequenting art and history museums, homes of historical significance, national landmarks and the theatre.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Stephen Sutton and Elena and John Miller; her grandchildren, Liam and Kilian Sutton and John Henry Miller; her brother, Robert A. Meyers; and many dear friends and extended family members.

Janet’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
