Obituary: Jerome Joseph Kennedy, 76, Of Wallingford

A U.S. Navy veteran, he volunteered at Tracy Fire House Company 6 & then worked for 32 years for the Wallingford Fire Department Company 3.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Jerome Joseph Kennedy, 76, longtime resident of Wallingford, passed away peacefully, February 16, 2023, at Arden House in Hamden, after suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Jerome was born in Meriden on January 2, 1947, a son of late Elmer J. and Dorothy (Clark) Kennedy.

Jerome served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Everglades AD-24. Following his service in the Navy, he volunteered at Tracy Fire House Company 6 in Yalesville and then worked for 32 years for the Wallingford Fire Department Company 3.

Jerome was a member of the Wallingford American Legion Post 187 until he fell ill. He was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church for many years and worked with the Youth Group. He was a very active member on the parade committee serving as a chairman and also was Grand Marshall in 2018 and was a huge asset to the Town Wallingford. His favorite hobby was fly fishing and he especially loved his daily walks with his beloved dogs, Rider and Boats.

Jerome is survived by his sons, Jerome “Jay” Kennedy and his partner, Kathy Pelletier, Robert Kennedy and his partner, Dawn Warnke and Daniel Kennedy; his sister, Sandra Kennedy Fries; his grandsons, Jayson and Thomas; his nephews, David Fries Jr. and his wife, Heather, William Fries and his wife, Cynthia and Thomas Fries and his partner, Jade White; and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Kennedy.

Jerome’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. with a prayer service to follow in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in State Veteran’s Cemetery in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
