Obituary: John J. Genovese, 75; Retired WPD Lieutenant

A U.S. Army veteran, he continued his service as a Law Enforcement Officer in Wallingford for 28 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): John J. Genovese, 75, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and children on Monday, October 30, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born in Waterbury, CT, February 12, 1948, to William Genovese and Louise (Scortino) Genovese. After having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, he continued his service as a Law Enforcement Officer in Wallingford, CT for 28 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant.

Post retirement, he continued to work in public service as both a civilian member of the Meriden Police Department and a safety officer at Quinnipiac University.

John dedicated his life to caring and providing for his family, as well as sharing his strength, courage, and tenacity with everyone he met. He is dearly missed by his wife and partner in crime, Deborah (Reynolds) Genovese; his children, Christopher Genovese (Heather Kieslich), Caitlyn Genovese, Meghan Pukay (Nathan Pukay) and Patrick Genovese, and his grandson, John Genovese; as well as his brothers, Kenny Genovese, William “Billy” Genovese, Robert “Bobby” Genovese (Linda); his brothers-in-law, Dennis Reynolds and Thomas Reynolds (Karen Hand); and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his parents, his nephew Troy and his sister-in-law Patricia.

John’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 6, at 10:30 a.m. directly at Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford. Interment with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
