Obituary: John 'Jack' DeNegris, 83, Of Wallingford

Jack owned Matthews Printing Co. and finally decided to retire on his 70th Birthday as the shop celebrated 50 years in business.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): John “Jack” DeNegris, 83, of North Hutchinson Island, FL and Wallingford, loving husband of Gail (Marcuss) DeNegris for 59 years, passed away August 8, 2023 at his home in Florida after a long battle with cancer.

Jack was born in New Haven on July 30, 1940, a son of the late Matthew and Josephine (Milici) DeNegris.

Jack was raised in Wallingford and spent half his life either visiting or living in Branford and the last years in his “Heaven on Earth,” Hutchinson Island, FL.

Jack coached his three sons’ baseball, at Yalesville Little League for many years, he was an avid Yankee fan and loved the UCONN girls’ basketball. How he missed his game day planning with lifelong friend Ron Chuba.

Jack was affectionately called “Pepa” and his family was everything; friends were his chosen family.

Jack will be forever remembered by his love for Gail, his devotion to family, his dry humor, his competitive spirit, his love for travel, his faith, and his deep appreciation for his life well-lived.

In addition to his wife, Gail, he will be deeply missed by his three sons and their wives, Dean (Rebecca) of Branford, Kurt (Heather) of Wallingford and Marc (Paige) of Milton, MA; his grandchildren, Brianna (Dominic), Michael, Eliza, Meredith, Blair, John Thomas, and Samantha; two great grandchildren, Mary Rose and Jack; his brother, Matthew DeNegris ; his sister-in-law, Jackie Hanlon; his brother-in-law, Fran Marcuss (Michelle); Mary Pashley (Sue); many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves many friends that WERE family to him. All will miss him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated directly at Most Holy Trinity Church on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, a place that always reminded him, “my life is blessed.”

Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. Wallingford.
