Obituary: John Joseph Dokurno, 24, Of Wallingford
John, who played baseball with Yalesville Little League & basketball at Sheehan High School, volunteered at the Wallingford Animal Shelter.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): John Joseph Dokurno, 24, of Wallingford, passed away, December 27, 2022, at his home.
John was born in Meriden on March 5, 1998, a son of Neil and Marcia (Sarafin) Dokurno of Wallingford.
John grew up in Wallingford. He spent much of his childhood on the baseball field with Yalesville Little League. John could also be found on the basketball court, where he played with the varsity team at Sheehan High School. Outside of sports, John on his bicycle was a constant presence throughout his neighborhood.

But John’s greatest passion was fishing and hiking. John explored the mountains and rivers of New England. He taught himself fly fishing and found peace chasing bass and trout. As a volunteer, John traveled to Wyoming for a summer to aid in forest restoration.
In both his work and private life, John lived out his love and care for his community. He volunteered at the Wallingford Animal Shelter and gave his hours to rehabilitating neglected cats. And he worked as a behavioral technician giving aid to young children with autism.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Neil Dokurno of Chicago, Illinois; his sister, Mary Dokurno of Wentworth, New Hampshire. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
John’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. when his funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment in St. John Cemetery will be private.
