Obituary: Joseph S. Abate, 81, Of Wallingford

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a proud member of Teamsters Local 443 in New Haven for 40 years, & a truck driver for Stop & Shop for 36 years.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Joseph S. Abate, 81, of Wallingford, loving husband of Victoria (Aniballi) Abate for 57 years, passed away July 8, 2022 at MidState Medical Center.

Joe was born in New Haven on December 17, 1940, a son of the late Salvatore and Catherine (Mansi) Abate.

Joe proudly served in the United States Army. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local 443 in New Haven for 40 years, and was a truck driver for Stop and Shop for 36 years. In retirement his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his Grandchildren and Great grandchildren and loved going on long drives with his beloved wife. He was also a big New York Yankee and Dallas Cowboy fan.

In addition to his wife, Victoria, he is survived by his sons, Salvatore Abate and his wife, Sue of Wallingford, Joseph Abate of Cromwell and Vincent Abate of Wallingford; his daughters, Victoria Abate of Wallingford and Christine Abate and her wife, Julie Cook, of Hallowell, Maine; His sisters, Matilda Misiti, Josephine Candido and Catherine Abate; his grandchildren, Alicia Roldan and her husband, James, Danielle Crook and her husband, Charles, Peter Abate and Juliana Abate; his great grandchildren, Braelyn and Evan Roldan and Jaxon Crook; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Interment with military honors will be at State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane in Middletown.
