Obituary: Kathryn ‘Kate’ (Ross) Howe, 79, of Wallingford

She taught third grade at Moses Y. Beach School in Wallingford prior to raising her family.

Kathryn “Kate” (Ross) Howe, 79, of Wallingford, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February 11, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Warren C. Howe Jr.

Kate was born in New Haven on June 11, 1938, the daughter of the late James R. and Alice (Doheny) Ross and was raised in West Haven. She graduated from West Haven High School in 1956. Her studies continued at Southern CT State University where she achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1960 and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1970. Kate began her teaching career at the former Colonial Park School in West Haven and then taught 3rd Grade at Moses Y. Beach School in Wallingford prior to raising her family.

Kathryn and Warren were high school sweethearts and were married July 7, 1962. They were founding parishioners of the Church of the Resurrection and longtime members of the Wallingford Country Club. They enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the U.S., Caribbean and Europe.

Kate was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose biggest joy in life was her family. In addition to her husband Warren, she will be missed by her son, Warren C. Howe III and his wife Patricia of Wallingford; her daughter, Alison H. Shanahan and her husband Timothy of Darien; her grandchildren, Warren C. Howe IV of Boston, Brendan Howe of Wallingford; and Kathryn, Megan and Elizabeth Shanahan of Darien.

The family would like to extend thanks for the care she received at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Masonicare Hospice in Wallingford.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Warren C. '60 and Kathryn R. Howe Family Scholarship Fund at Providence College, 1 Cunningham Square, Providence, RI 02918-0001, which provides financial assistance to students from Connecticut.
