Obituary: Katrina Ann (Stopkoski) Torres, 51, of Wallingford

Katrina Ann (Stopkoski) Torres, 51, of Wallingford, died peacefully Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Masonicare Health Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Joe Torres and cherished mother of Jayden and Valerie Torres, and stepson Eric Torres. She also leaves behind an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was born in New Haven, June 30, 1966, a daughter of Helen (Hrycuniak) Stopkoski, and the late Stanley Stopkoski. Katrina graduated from Lyman Hall High School class of 1984. Her college career began at Central Connecticut State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree. She continued her education at Southern Connecticut State University where she received her Master’s Degree as well as her Sixth year degree in Education. She went on to teach third and fourth grade for 26 years at Rock Hill Elementary School in Wallingford. Throughout her teaching career, Katrina touched many lives which included her students and their families as well as her peers. Katrina’s love for teaching her students never wavered and she always looked forward to getting up each day to spend time in her classroom. Her dedication was recognized this year with Katrina being awarded the Rock Hill School Teacher of the Year Award. Her love carried over to homeless animals to which she gave her time as well as contributing pet food and making monetary donations to the Wallingford Animal Shelter. Katrina enjoyed attending Yankees games with her family and went to many Bon Jovi concerts.

The family would like to thank all of her peers at Rock Hill School for the love and support they showed Katrina during her illness. The family would also like to thank the North Haven Smilow Center, The Sisters’ Project, CTCA of Chicago and Masonicare for the care and support given to Katrina
