Obituary: Leon ‘L.J.’ Snyder, 29, of Wallingford

He was a graduate of Wilcox Technical School and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army.

Leon “L.J.” Snyder, 29, of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 18, 2018, due to a motor vehicle accident.

Born in Meriden, on October 5, 1988, he was the beloved son of Phyllis (Pascale) Gavin and the late Leon J. Snyder, and his stepfather David Gavin. He was a graduate of Wilcox Technical School and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. L.J. enjoyed all activities involving the outdoors, especially dirt biking and fishing. He also enjoyed going for long rides on his street bike. L.J. was a hard worker and enjoyed his truck driving job at Globus Express. He touched the hearts of everyone he knew with his infectious personality, smile, and his one-of-a-kind handshake. Any parent would have been proud to call him their son.

In addition to his mother and stepfather, he is survived by his loving girlfriend, Rose Hayden, his best friend and brother, Devin Gavin, his brother, Karl Snyder, his grandmothers, Jan Snyder of Florida and Ellen Griffin of Meriden, many aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends.

Besides his father, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Salvatore and Barbara Pascale, his paternal grandfather Leon Snyder, his paternal grandmother, Marge Pageau and her husband, Lionel Pageau, and step grandmother, Barbara Lazar.

His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Thursday, March 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow the funeral service at the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project or your local Humane Society.
