Obituary: Lester J. Jobbagy, 91, of Wallingford

He was a founding parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection and also was a founding member of Friends of Wallingford Football.

Lester J. Jobbagy, 91, of Wallingford, died Friday, November 2, 2018 at home. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa R. (Powers) Jobbagy.

Mr. Jobbagy was born in Wallingford, December 7, 1926 and had been a lifelong Wallingford resident. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from AGC after 50 years. Lester had devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren. A devout Roman Catholic, he was a founding parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection and also was a founding member of Friends of Wallingford Football. He was a longtime member and past President of the Wallingford Country Club and an avid fan of the N.Y. Yankees, N.Y. Giants, and the UConn Women’s Basketball teams.

He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda J. and Walter J. Layman of Cheshire, and Patricia J. and Kenneth M. Cooley of Wallingford; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard D. and Nancy A. Jobbagy of Southington; his son-in-law, Stephen M. Jakab of Trumbull; eight grandchildren, Michael Layman, Katie Layman, Melanie McGowan (Jeff), Douglas Jobbagy, Jason Cooley (Alyssa), Christina Cooley, Kelly Angelone and Matthew Jakab; three great grandchildren, Nathan, Peyton and Mckenna; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Feher) Jobbagy; his daughter, Tina Jakab; and his brothers, Alex, Frank, Joseph, Louis and William Jobbagy.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday Nov. 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. directly at the Church of the Resurrection. Interment with military honors will be at St. John Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
