Obituary: Marie W. O’Connell, 90, Of Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Marie W. O’Connell, 90, beloved wife of the late Robert B. O’Connell, of Wallingford, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. Born in Waterbury on January 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Florence (Burr) Wooster.

A graduate of Crosby High School, Marie worked as a customer service representative at Dime Savings Bank, conveniently located near Holy Trinity School where her boys attended. She then turned her skills to finishing her career working multiple administrative roles at Choate Rosemary Hall before retiring in 1996.

A woman of strong faith, Marie was a long-time parishioner of the Most Holy Trinity Church. Upon retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband.

The couple loved their annual trips to S. Maarten with Christine and the late Tom Marzlin and Judy and the late Robert Daly. She was always willing to “take a ride” to one of the casinos or along the shoreline for lunch at the Fish Tale. Clinton was one of their favorite places as that was where the couple met when first dating and would later return many summers vacationing with their extended family.

Marie loved her family, especially her grandkids. A visit or a phone call from any of them would light her up, no matter what else was going on in her life. She was fortunate enough to even attend the wedding celebration of her oldest grandchild, Brittany, last fall.

Anyone she spoke to or that visited her home, she would be quick to point out each grandchild and boast about what they had accomplished or what they were doing now.

Marie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Rose O’Connell of Hebron and Kevin and Charlene O’Connell of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Brittany and her husband Thomas Nassr, Dylan, Madison and Paige O’Connell. She was predeceased by her sister Alice (Wooster) Jeannin and her husband Robert, and her sister Eleanor (Wooster) Stever and her husband William. She is survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
