Obituary: Michael J. Hoban, 73, Of Wallingford
Michael, who spent 31 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired in 1999 as a Lieutenant Colonel, spent many years involved in youth sports.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Michael J. Hoban, 73, of Wallingford, husband of Renu (Myrrpurey) Hoban, passed away unexpectedly October 10, 2022 at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Michael was a devoted brother, husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Julie Ladrigan and her husband Randy. Among the greatest joys of Michael's life was spending time with his two grandsons, Brayden and Blake. Michael also leaves his sister, Mary Habif and her husband John, his niece, Sara Slogesky and nephew, Bryan Habif.
Michael was born in Hartford on June 9, 1949, a son of the late James and Catherine (Bannon) Hoban.

Michael graduated from South Catholic High School in 1967. He then attended Assumption College where he was a member of the inaugural football team. He graduated from Assumption in 1971. Michael continued to support Assumption’s football team. He enjoyed watching the games and sharing football memories with his grandsons. He also received his Master’s Degree from University of New Haven.
Michael enrolled in Officers Candidate School for the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968. He spent 31 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and retired in 1999 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He took great pride in being a Marine.

Michael retired in 2003 from the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch, where he was Chief of Bail and Probation for the Waterbury area. Michael also spent many years involved in youth sports where he coached and officiated such sports as soccer, football, basketball and lacrosse.
Michael had a love for history, books, sports, and travel. He shared these passions with his family. He and Renu took many wonderful trips all over the world. Some of his favorite places included London, Paris, Berlin, Hawaii and many train trips across the United States. He had a love of historical cities. Michael also loved sharing his enjoyment of sports and history with his daughter and grandsons with trips to Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and most recently Chicago. He loved watching Sunday night football and the Super Bowls with his grandson, Brayden. He enjoyed taking an annual trip to Harry’s in Colchester with his family, where he went as a child with his parents.

In accordance with Michaels’ wishes, all services and interment in State Veterans’ Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. Wallingford.
