Obituary: Nancy Jane Pilla, 80, Of Wallingford

Nancy loved to cook and there was always an extra plate and peach Kool-Aid for those unexpected guests that dropped by.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Nancy Jane Pilla, 80, of Wallingford (formerly of Meriden), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Regency House Nursing and Rehabilitation in Wallingford with her family by her side. Born in Lima, OH on November 3, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Edna (Deerheake) Plaster.

An original remote worker, Nancy was an administrative assistant for the Vergilian Society of America during her child rearing years. She then entered the workforce at Transformer Technology, Inc. until her retirement and was the last employee in her department. Her work included transformers that were installed on the Space Shuttle. In addition, Nancy also worked at Target in Meriden for 12 years prior to a lengthy illness and was one of the original employees that stocked and helped open the store.

In earlier years, Nancy enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, and outside of New England. She also enjoyed going to the beach. That was her happy place as well as sitting in the sun poolside at Victoria Towers in Meriden.

Nancy loved to cook and there was always an extra plate and peach Kool-Aid for those unexpected guests that dropped by. She had a subtle way of force feeding you with antipasto or something she did not want to put in the fridge. She especially enjoyed hosting holidays with family. She always enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Nancy is survived by her children, Guy T. Pilla III and his wife, Kimberly of Fryeburg, ME, Debra Pilla of Wallingford, Susan (Pilla) Lavoie and her fiancé, Pete Massiello of Danbury, and Anthony R. Pilla and his wife, Sandi of Middlefield; her grandchildren, Jason Pilla, Nicole Lavoie, Dalton Lavoie and Anthony R. Pilla Jr.; her brother, John F. Plaster and his wife, Chris; her brother-in-law, Anthony G. Pilla and many nieces and nephews including John Plaster and James Plaster; as well as many extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband, Guy T. Pilla Jr.; her brother, Robert Plaster; her step father, Samuel Parmelee; and her special friend, Ted DeVit Sr.

The family would like to thank Nancy’s caregivers, nurses, and therapists at The Orchards of Southington, Regency House, and Constellation Hospice.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Friday, September 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a funeral service and celebration of Nancy’s life beginning at 7 p.m. Interment in St. John Cemetery will be private.
