Obituary: Nicholas J. Murano Jr., 61, Of Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Nicholas J. Murano Jr. passed away peacefully Thursday, January 26, 2023, with his family by his side.

Nicholas was born July 2, 1961, in Meriden, CT to Nicholas J. Murano Sr. and the late Brenda Bartek Murano. The family first resided in an apartment above their grandparents on North Main Street in Wallingford where Nick developed lifelong friends from the neighborhood.

When the family moved to Brownstone Rd., Nick attended local schools Xavier High School and, eventually, graduated from Sheehan High School. Nicholas went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Spring of 1986 with an Associate in Applied Science. His field of study was in Building Construction Technology and he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

During his youth, Nicholas became a member of the Yalesville Fife and Drum Corp Junior Ancients under the early instruction of Mr. Fred Rossomando, Mr. Earl Sturtze and Mr. Hugh Quigley, Nicky went on to earn numerous medals and awards with gold being his favorite of course!

He traveled to many places with the Jr. Ancients, marched with the Governor’s Footguard and worked with numerous bands, most notable of which was Psychotic Reaction. Nick had earned the respect of many for his humble drumming expertise. Nick made lifelong friends and family through the drum corps and continued to march and practice with the Senior Ancients.

Nicholas had a love for construction and the trades. His excellence could be seen in all his projects throughout the state under the names Nicholas J Murano LLC and Icefighters. Nick made numerous friends in the industry as well. He continued his education throughout his life, earning the Journeyman P6 license in both CT and Rhode Island and most recently became CTDOT AWSD1.1 Structural Welding Certified in all positions.

Nicholas had a love for all classic cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles and enjoyed great times at his grandparents’ home in Misquamicut, RI. Nick also enjoyed going target shooting, old school shows like M*A*S*H* and was active in local politics. Nick was a big foodie, and always enjoyed chicken parmesan and a slice of his favorite pizza at Sally’s in New Haven.

Anyone who knew Nick heard him speak with pride about his greatest love, his son Jared Murano. He loved going to all of Jared’s educational, sporting and jazz band events. Nick is survived by and was cared for in his final days not only by Jared, but also by Jared’s mother, Christina Bouchard and her husband, John Bouchard as well as Jared’s brother, Devyn Bouchard, whom he looked at as a second son. Nick attended all of Devyn’s high school events and was an active father figure in Devyn’s life up to his final moments.

In addition to his son, Nicholas is also survived by his father, Nicholas J. Murano Sr. and his wife, Patty; his siblings, Michael Murano, Michelle Neri and her husband, Vincent, Lisa Culmone and her husband, Therlin Montgomery, Christine Ferraro and her husband, Louis, Kevin Murano and his partner, Rose Parrella; his stepbrother, Michael DeGennaro and his wife, Beth; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many beloved friends.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., on Friday, February 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 4 at 10 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Rd., Wallingford.
