Obituary: Nicholas J. Murano Sr., 89, Of Wallingford
Nicholas was a partner with Kowalski Realty and their various development companies, and he eventually moved on to Stephen Realty.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Nicholas J. Murano Sr., the beloved husband of Raffaela “Patty” (Morgillo) Murano, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 30, 2023, with his family by his side.
Born in Westerly, Rhode Island on July 28, 1934, to the late Sylvester M. Murano Sr. and Julia (Ferrigno)Murano, Nicholas resided in the Oak St. home with the Azzinaro, Ferendo, Liguori, and Urso families nearby.
Nick shared wonderful memories of growing up with his cousins, making the Italian specialties and having the only telephone in the neighborhood. The family eventually settled in Wallingford, CT. In his youth Nicholas attended local schools and enjoyed his time visiting Veterans of WWII, putting on tap dancing shows with his partner, Evelyn, and family friend and children’s author, Tomie dePaola.

After graduating from Lyman Hall in 1952, Nick attended UConn until he was drafted in 1954. During the Korean War Nicholas attended the SE Signal School and served as a high-speed radio operator in the states. After his return Nicholas attended the Engineering School of New Haven and Quinnipiac College. Nicholas became a builder specializing in residential homes until he obtained his real estate license which he kept until 2022.
Nicholas was a partner with Kowalski Realty and their various development companies, and he eventually moved on to Stephen Realty. Nick volunteered and sat on numerous boards and committees including the Wallingford Historical Society, Tercentenary Committee, Jaycees, Civitan Club, Housing Code, and Colony Savings Bank.

In his earlier years Nick loved helping out at the Our Lady of Fatima summer carnivals as well as offering his carpentry skills to all the various Wallingford Events. Nick was also a member of the Wallingford Elks and the American Legion.
In 1960 Nicholas married Brenda Bartek, he built their family home where they raised their six children and enjoyed many summers with the kids in Misquamicut and Cape Cod. After Brenda’s passing Nick met his next love, Raffaela “Patty” and adopted her entire family as his own. He enjoyed many happy memories traveling to their home in Florida and all the sites along the way. They loved their coffee family visits at Dunkin catching up on all their news. Nick’s dancing, his humor, his love for life and wine will be dearly missed.
In addition to his loving wife Patty, Nick is survived by his children, Michael R. Murano, Michelle Neri and her husband, Vincent, Lisa Culmone and her husband, Therlin Montgomery, Christine Ferraro and her husband, Louis, Kevin Murano and his partner Rose Parrella; his stepson, Michael Degennaro and his wife, Beth. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jared, Julia, Jocelynn, Vincent, Brianna, Bridget, Amanda, Jaret, Kayli, Alyssa, Alana, Haley and Ava; along with his great grandson, Andrew and his extended grandchildren, Devyn, Kyle, Michael, Brandon and Nicholas. Nicholas was predeceased by his wife, Brenda Bartek, his brother, Sylvester M. Murano Jr. and sister, Julie Dunn, his son Nicholas J. Murano Jr. and his granddaughter, Lauren.
Nick’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 10 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.
