Obituary: Raymond M. Passerino, 96; Formerly Of Wallingford

A World War II U.S. Army Veteran, he was awarded three Bronze Star Medals and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Raymond M. Passerino, 96, formerly of Wallingford, loving husband of 66 years to the late Anna H. (Gionfriddo) Passerino, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022 at Brighton Gardens in Florham Park, New Jersey.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Rena (Provini) Passerino. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran serving as a Rifleman in the 95th Infantry Division in Europe including the Battle of Metz. He was awarded three Bronze Star Medals and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He retired from American Cyanamid where he worked as an electrician.

Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also volunteered in the Junior Achievement Program. When he retired, he enjoyed activities and travel with the Wallingford Senior Center and renewed his interest in painting. He also enjoyed weekly card games and dinners out with friends and relatives.

He was known for his kind nature and sense of humor which was often displayed in the form of a friendly witty quip.

Raymond is survived by his loving daughter, Donna (Passerino) Sjovall and her husband, Bill, of Morristown, NJ; his grandchildren, Gregory Sjovall and Elissa O’Neill and their spouses Tory and Jason. In his last years he was most happy spending time with his two great grandchildren, Violet Ray and Reggie. Violet’s middle name was given in affection to honor her great grandfather.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11am. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory can be made to: American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
