Obituary: Richard Hamasian Jr., 73, Of Wallingford

He was passionate about teaching and most recently taught elementary education for the Meriden Public Schools.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Richard Hamasian Jr. passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2022, he was a longtime resident of Wallingford where he had grown up with his family. He is predeceased by his parents Richard and Anna (Tarpinian) Hamasian. Richard was born May 13, 1949 in Meriden, CT.

Richard received his Bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State University, his Master’s degree in education and held a six-year teaching degree from Southern Connecticut State University. He was passionate about teaching and took every opportunity to instill his love of learning in his nieces and nephews as well as his many students over the years.

He most recently taught elementary education for the Meriden Public Schools at Casmir Pulaski, Hanover, and Israel Putnam (affectionately known as Mr. H.) where he continued to substitute teach even after his retirement.

His most enjoyable times were with his family; family was his life. He most especially loved summer vacations with his family going to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware which became somewhat of a tradition over the years. He always loved being at the beach, family gatherings, going to church, singing, talking about his Armenian heritage, and spending time with his cherished nieces and nephews (his kids) and watching them grow up.

Richard is survived by his siblings, Karen Hamasian-Meyer and her husband, Steven of Wallingford, Lisa Bissell and her husband, Thomas of Wallingford and Peter Hamasian and his wife, Nancy of Hamden; his niece, Stephanie Belanger and her husband, Nicholas as well as recent addition, Delaney all of Meriden, Richard Meyer and his fiancé, Rachel Patane of New Hampshire, Peter Hamasian Jr., and his wife, Lisa as well as their son, Bruno all of North Haven, Nicholas Hamasian and his wife, Ashley of Hamden, Andrew Bissell of Wallingford and Alli Bissell and her boyfriend, Joe Hartman both of Wallingford; his “other family” and best friends, the Adamcewicz’s and the Figueroa/Rivera/Miranda crew; as well as other extended family memebers and cherished friends. His beloved nieces and nephews will never forget “R UNCLE” and will always love him, miss him, and cherish the many memories made together.
