Obituary: Richard Joseph Tobin Jr., 69, Of Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Richard Joseph Tobin Jr., 69, of Wallingford, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Midstate Medical Center after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Lynn S. Maeland-Tobin.

He was born in Everett, MA, August 10, 1953, a son of the late Richard J. Sr. and Edna (Kelley) Tobin. He grew up in Wallingford and graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1971.

As a youth he excelled in sports, especially baseball. He was a life-long Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He loved animals and always had a dog to keep him company. He cherished his family time and adored his six grandchildren. He retired from DST Communications in 2015. Richard loved music and was a drummer.

In addition to his wife Lynn, he is survived by his children, Richard J. Tobin III, and Shannon Tobin (Chris Smith); his mother-in-law, Gunhild Maeland; his step-children, Lindsey Welch (Kenneth Woodtke), Jessica Welch (Mayco Morales), Radford Welch (Elizabeth Lynch) and Samantha Welch; his grandchildren, Jasper Tobin, Aria Smith; step-grandchildren, Landon Welch, Angel and Janiyah Morales, and Kaleb Woodkte; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and John Sandusky, Maureen McCrillis, and Kelley Ann and Nicholas Urbano; his brother, Timothy Tobin; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and several cousins. He is also survived by his former wife, Maria Clark. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Arnulf Maeland and his brother-in-law, Timothy McCrillis.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext. Wallingford, on Friday, March 10 from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Road, Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.

Gifts in his memory may be made to the Friends of the Wallingford Animal Shelter, or Connecticut Children’s Hospital.
