Obituary: Robert ‘Bob’ James McDermott, 76, Of Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Robert "Bob" James McDermott, 76, of Wallingford, died August 22, 2023 at Masonicare.

Bob was born in New Haven on February 18, 1947, a son of the late Charles and Adele (McKenna) McDermott.

Bob worked as Director of Systems Development at Citibank/Travelers in Hartford. When he wasn't at work he loved reading, cats of any kind, and creating art in whatever media had most recently caught his eye. He had a passion for the performing arts, music, poetry, and photography; winning awards in local photography contests in his later years. He leaves behind numerous unfinished novels and plays that the world is poorer for never having seen.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Bianca McDermott of Wyncote, PA; his son, Ian McDermott of El Paso, TX; his ex-wife and mother of his amazing children, Janet Blakely Kovacevich of Westfield, MA; brother, Charles McDermott of Cheshire, CT; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Adele (McDermott) McNamara, and his beloved wife Shari.

Bob’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. His funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
