Obituary: Robert J. ‘Chuck’ Dorsey, 91, Of Wallingford

Robert was the co-owner and operator of Dorsey's Service Station & Fuel Oil Company in Wallingford for more than 50 years.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Robert J. “Chuck” Dorsey, 91, of Wallingford, loving husband of Phyllis (Nolan) Dorsey, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Regency House Health and Rehabilitation Center with his loving family by his side.

Robert was born in Meriden on May 15th, 1932, son of the late Anthony and Madeline (Morris) Dorsey. He was a lifelong resident of Wallingford, and a graduate of Lyman Hall High School where he played football and baseball.

He served as a Sergeant E-5 in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on March 31, 1961. Robert was the co-owner and operator of Dorsey’s Service Station & Fuel Oil Company in Wallingford for over 50 years. He was a proud sponsor of the Dorsey Oilers basketball team, and a member of the local VFW and the Libero Pensiero Club.

Chuck was known for having a good sense of humor. He never let a moment pass by without laughter or a corny joke. He was a strong and hardworking man. He shared his life with his wife, Phyllis, whom he treasured for 65 years.

Chuck enjoyed listening to music, partaking in outdoor activities, and found a passion for baking later in his life. He also loved spending time at the service station with his lifelong buddies. It was no secret that Chuck was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers football team. He adored his family more than anything and always shared his many stories with them. After his retirement, he cherished moments with his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to support their accomplishments.

Robert is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Nolan) Dorsey; his two sons, Ryne Dorsey and his wife, Christine of Wallingford and Randi Dorsey and his wife, JoAnn of Wallingford; his daughter, Lisanne (Dorsey) Barlow and her husband, Christopher of Wolcott; his five grandchildren, Ian Dorsey, Shealyn Barlow, Jason Barlow, Nicole Dorsey, and Noah Dorsey; his sister-in-law, Bernice Dorsey; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Dorsey; his sister, Lorraine (Dorsey) Eylward; and his brother-in-law, Raymond Eylward.

The family would like to thank Chuck's caregivers, nurses and therapists who helped with his care.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., on Saturday, September 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Robert’s funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow the service in St. John Cemetery.
