UPDATE: Police Identify Victim in Wallingford Crash

State Police are investigating the two-car crash, which occurred early Friday morning on I-91 South.

Update:

Francisco Gimenez, 73, of Queens, New York, died at Yale New Haven Hospital on Friday after an early morning crash on I-91 South in Wallingford, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports Gimenez was traveling in the center lane when he was rear-ended by Charles White, 27, of Middletown, who reportedly fell asleep, and Gimenez’s vehicle struck a pillar in the highway median.

No charges have been filed in the crash and it remains under investigation, according to the Record-Journal.

Connecticut State Police are investigating a fatal two-car crash in which one person died on I-91 South in Wallingford early Friday morning.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports emergency crews were on the scene of the crash between Exits 15 and 16 on I-91 South around 1:20 a.m.

One of the vehicles crashed into the bridge abutment, according to NBC Connecticut.

The highway was closed for nearly five hours but has since reopened.
