Popular Cidery Closing Its Taproom In Wallingford, Owners Announce ‘Difficult Decision’

WALLINGFORD, CT — New England Cider Company is closing its tasting room in Wallingford this weekend, the owners announced.

New England Cider Company’s tasting room has been located at 110 North Plains Industrial Road for the past 10 years.

Its final date of service will be July 19.

The owners said they made the “difficult decision” to close the tasting room after a “great deal of thought,” and touted a new direction for the company.

“While our tasting room is closing, this is not the end of New England Cider Company,” reads a post on the company’s Facebook page. “Far from it! Our focus is shifting to manufacturing, allowing us to continue growing and bringing our cider to more people throughout New England. We will continue crafting the hard cider you've come to know and love and you'll still be able to find it at package stores, bars, and restaurants throughout CT, MA and RI.

“It's hard to believe we've been in business for 13 years, with the tasting room serving as our home for the past 10. In that time, we've watched first dates turn into weddings, celebrated birthdays and milestones, hosted live music, trivia nights, fundraisers and countless gatherings. More importantly, we've built relationships with an incredible community of customers, neighbors, supporters and friends.”

The owners said like many small businesses, New England Cider Company has had to “evolve alongside a changing industry.”

“This decision wasn't easy, but we believe it's the right one for the long-term future of New England Cider Company and our ability to continue making the cider we're proud to share,” the owners wrote. “This isn't goodbye, it's simply the beginning of a new chapter.

“We hope you'll continue to support us by enjoying New England Cider Company's cider wherever you find it. Every purchase helps support our small business and we're incredibly thankful to have you with us for what's next.”
