“Powerful Tools for Caregivers” Series at Gaylord Hospital

Free, Six-Week Program Helps Family Caregivers Take Care of Themselves While Caring for a Loved One

Gaylord Specialty Healthcare will host a free six-week series, “Powerful Tools for Family Caregivers”, at its Wallingford campus located at 50 Gaylord Farms Road. The six-week series will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays from September 20 to October 25th. Interested participants may register by calling Valerie D’Apice at 203-440-3548 by Monday, September 18th.

The sessions are co-led by Diane Birtha, RN, BSA, and Valerie D’Apice, BS, and are designed to help you take care of yourself while caring for a relative, a friend, or someone who lives at home, in a nursing home, or across the country.

The classes will give participants tools to help them reduce stress and take care of themselves; communicate effectively with other family members, doctors, and paid help; reduce anger, guilt and depression; make tough decisions; and set goals and problem-solve. The classes will not focus on specific disease or hands-on caregiving.
