UPDATE: Driver Returns to Scene of Accident that Struck Woman, Killed Dog

A 73-year-old woman was struck while walking her dog on Monday evening in what initially looked like a hit-and-run accident.

Update, Nov. 10:

The driver who struck a 73-year-old woman who was walking her dog on North Turnpike Road (Route 150) near Amore Pizza returned to the scene after initially fleeing on Monday evening, according to NBC Connecticut.

The woman was injured in the accident and the dog died.

The man who said he was the driver told NBC Connecticut that he didn’t see the woman until it was too late and she was standing by the yellow center lines. He told NBC the collision sounded like he had hit a grocery cart.

He also said he panicked but always intended to return to the scene and drove around for 10 minutes trying to get back, according to NBC. He also told NBC that he wants to buy the woman another dog.

The Meriden Record-Journal identified the driver as Mark Kinard, 54, of Wallingford, and police say he has been cooperating with the investigation.

The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition as of Monday night.

A woman is injured and a dog died after being struck by a car on North Turnpike Road just before 5 p.m. in Wallingford, reports the Record Journal.

The driver fled the scene, and the road was closed between Parker Farms Road and Hosford Bridge Road.
