Road Closure Announced For 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony In Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — The town will hold a remembrance ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, to honor and pay tribute to all those affected by the events of September 11, 2001.

The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in front of Town Hall.

To accommodate the ceremony, Wallingford police announced that South Main Street will be closed between Center Street and Prince Street beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The closure will remain in effect until the conclusion of the event, which is expected to be approximately 11:30 a.m., according to police.

“Temporary no parking zones will also be in place along South Main Street,” police wrote in a news release. “These restrictions will be clearly marked in advance. Vehicles parked in violation will be subject to ticketing and may be towed at the owner’s expense.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation, and we encourage all residents and visitors to plan accordingly.”

The program will include the “posting of the Colors, student speakers from Lyman Hall High School and Mark T. Sheehan High School, along with other heartfelt tributes,” according to a news release from Mayor Vincent Cervoni.

“In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the Robert F. Parisi Town Council Chambers. This meaningful event is proudly sponsored by the Wallingford Fire Department, Wallingford Police Department and Public Celebrations Committee.”
