‘She Makes A Difference Every Day’: Wallingford Teacher Spotlight

WALLINGFORD, CT — Great teachers matter. In Wallingford Public Schools, we’re fortunate to have teachers like Maura DiStante.

How do you know the teacher?

She has been a counselor for my children in High School

What does this person teach?

She is a guidance Counselor at Mark T. Sheehan High School

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

I am one of so many that could share how Maura gives so much to every student no matter what time of day, what the circumstance is, she is the person in many students' stressful, trying High School experience that is always present and advocating for her students. She is in every facet of the school, she is honest with her students but has guided so many to help them find their path in their lives even when they didn't think they had one themselves.

Maura has had many personal challenges over the last 3 years. He husband suffered a life changing stroke that he was very close to losing his life. Even with all of this Maura showed up always for her students. Even with her 2 children, many challenges along the way, she always carried herself with love and guidance for all that have had the wonderful honor of working with her. She makes a difference every day and I know no one more deserving.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

She is selfless and dedicated with great strength for all those that know her.
