Sheehan Graduate Sets SCSU Record In Javelin Throw
The Wallingford resident set the record during SCSU's first outdoor track & field meet of the season at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina
WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford’s Jordan Davis, a sophomore on the Southern Connecticut State University men’s track and field team, set a school record in the javelin throw in the Owls’ first outdoor meet of the season on Thursday.
Turner Kelly, a graduate student from Amityville, New York, also broke a program record in the shot put at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina. More than 150 schools competed at the event on the campus of North Carolina State. Southern competed against mainly Division I athletes from across the country in the event.
Davis, a Sheehan graduate, finished in third place out of 37 in the javelin throw with a mark of 70.05 meters. He became the first SCSU student-athlete with a javelin throw of at least 70-meters, and broke Omar Gonzalez's program record of 69.01 meters, which was set at the 2013 National Championships. Davis has now placed in the top three in six of seven meets in his collegiate career, according to a news release.
